• Subscribe to LibraryAnywhere (LibraryThing) service who scrape our iii database information continually so no need for our staff to provide downloads.


• The service provides two interfaces:
  


• Smartphones like iPhone, Android, Blackberry (https://www.libanywhere.com/m/210)
  
• Other web-capable mobile devices use what is called the universal interface (https://www.libanywhere.com/la/210).
  
• This interface is also fully compliant with Section 508 and other accessibility standards so we can provide a link for text-readers in our regular catalog.

• Most guides are easily viewable in the mobile format but some pages/tabs should be reviewed for readability, especially information in tables.

Mobile catalog

We have been working with LibraryThing to use their new product LibraryAnywhere as a mobile catalog. Their product is now live and we are putting the finishing touches on our catalog before publicizing it.

The mobile catalog comes in two forms:

• Mobile web for iPhone, Android, and a
  
• Universal version that works on any phone with web-browsing capabilities.

Key features

• Search catalog, place holds, renew items. It does what the regular catalog does.
• Save records to your phone to access later. Works on any phone with a web-browsing feature—not just smart phones.
• “Universal Version” is fully compliant with Section 508 and other accessibility standards.
• Geo-location finds your nearest library easily.

Note: I have entered the prescribed script into the the III toplogo.html file so that anyone using the regular catalog url (http://alicat.austincc.edu) will be prompted to use the mobile application if they are using a mobile device.

WHAT'S BEEN DONE SO FAR:

• Created the mobile catalog home page with the following (linked) pages
• My Account (catalog login page)
• Hours & Locations
• Ask a Librarian
• Integrated with the mobile library web site (http://library.austincc.edu/m/)
• Tested the all the functions -- searching, logging into an account, requesting and item, saving a list of items, etc.
  

WHAT REMAINS TO BE DONE IN THIS PHASE:

• Decide how to link from the Library Web Site and the regular Opac.
• Decide how to publicize.

Progress on Spanish Opac 7/10/10

Finished the last patron verification screen (for electronic reserves) "pverify6_web_spi.html"

Note: I did not translate the copyright information on that page. Do we need to?

Found needed and created the following buttons:

• closewn
• closewindow
• ret2cat
• limavail
• pat_cancelmark
• pat_sortbychkout
• request_reset
• sortpudate

Updated the "wwwoptions" to include lines for these buttons and a couple more that I had buttons for but no line in the wwwops.

Ran several scenarios in the catalog. Need to have web committee test before adding the Espanol link to the English catalog.

Progress on Spanish Opac 6/29/10

Worked a little this morning before LLT meeting.

• Mostly worked on "patronview_spi.html" which is the information screen you get when you want to view your account.

Created the page which is mostly tokens. Noticed that I needed to create the following buttons:

• pat_sortbydue (note: will need to add to wwwoptions for _spi activation)
  
• pat_renewmark (note: these two must already be in wwwoptions because they display)
  
• pat_renewall

• The message at the top of the screen is system generated and I see no place to change to Spanish. Will need to investigate further.

• Also noticed that when logged in that the log out link and logout button return the user to the English language catalog.

the code for both of those is /logout?

Changed to /logout?*spi and that seems to work

• Began to work on "pverify3_web.html" which is the verification screen you get when you want to request an item. There are some repeating elements so I need to start from scratch on this one.

Progress on Spanish Opac 6/28/10

Worked on srchhelp pages today:

• Changed the search tool to a standard using the color green (#D1EFD8)
• Changed the form focus on all the pages because it sent the cursor to the second entry box on all the forms. The setting was changed from elements[1] to [[body onLoad="document.forms[0].elements[0].focus();]] Note I changed the angle bracket to square brackets to see it here.
• Cleaned up link errors on several pages.

Changes to other files to make the searchtool green:

• briefcit / _resources / _auth
  
• added a style at the top for the browseSearchtool
  
• added a style to AVS advancedSearchtool
• need to work on other results pages to figure out how to style the search tool on those pages (for example, the bib display page)

Need to work on the pverify_web files.
